Insurance Disclosure Statement
A plain-language statement of what insurance exists on a NamCab trip — and what does not.
Last updated 8 July 2026
Namibia does not yet have e-hailing-specific insurance legislation. Rather than imply cover that does not exist, this statement sets out honestly what protection applies on a NamCab trip today.
What is in place
- Every driver must hold valid vehicle insurance as a condition of driving on NamCab, verified at onboarding and tracked for renewal.
- Every vehicle must hold a current roadworthiness certificate.
- Namibia’s MVA Fund provides statutory cover for death and bodily injury from motor vehicle accidents on Namibian roads — including for passengers — independent of NamCab.
- Every trip has a GPS record, which makes establishing the facts of an accident far easier than in an unrecorded taxi trip.
What you should know
- NamCab is a marketplace, not the transport provider, and does not currently provide its own passenger-liability or personal-accident insurance on top of the driver’s cover and the MVA Fund.
- The scope of a driver’s vehicle policy is a matter between the driver and their insurer; some private policies treat fare-carrying use differently. We require drivers to hold insurance appropriate to their use of the vehicle.
- Personal belongings are not insured by NamCab — see the Lost Property Policy for how we help recover them.
We are evaluating a platform-level passenger injury cover as the marketplace grows. If introduced, this statement will be updated and the cover announced in the app.
If you are in an accident
Follow the steps in the Safety & Incident Response Policy. Our safety team will share the trip record and the driver’s insurance details with those lawfully entitled to them, and can point you to the MVA Fund claims process.
