Payments, Wallet & Financial Crime Policy

How payments work today, what will change when cards and the wallet launch, and how we guard against money-laundering and fraud.

Payments today

  • Cash, paid directly to the driver at the end of the trip, is the standard payment method. The app records the fare so both sides have a receipt.
  • Corporate accounts are invoiced monthly for their organisation’s trips; no cash changes hands in the vehicle.
  • Drivers are paid out their share on a weekly cycle.

When cards and the wallet launch

Card payments and a NamCab wallet are on our roadmap. Before they go live, we will update this policy and the Refund & Cancellation Policy with the specifics. The commitments below will apply from day one:

  • Payments will be processed by a payment provider licensed to operate for Namibian settlement; NamCab will not store your full card details.
  • Pre-trip authorisation holds will be released automatically for cancelled or unmatched rides.
  • Wallet balances will only be usable for NamCab services, and wallet activity will be visible in your transaction history.
  • We will comply with Bank of Namibia requirements applicable to payment services and stored value, including under the Payment System Management Act.

Know-your-customer checks

We verify who is on our platform. Riders register with a verified phone number. Drivers and transfer providers complete full identity verification — national ID, driver’s licence, a live selfie and verification video — before they can accept a single trip. When the wallet launches, additional identity checks may be required by law before higher balances or payouts are enabled, in line with the Financial Intelligence Act 13 of 2012.

Anti-money-laundering commitments

  • We monitor for unusual transaction patterns, including circular trips, self-dealing between linked rider and driver accounts, and structured payments.
  • We report suspicious activity to the Financial Intelligence Centre where the law requires it.
  • We cooperate with lawful requests from the Bank of Namibia, NamRA and law-enforcement agencies.
  • Accounts used for financial crime are closed and, where appropriate, reported.
