Data Protection & Retention Policy
What we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the rights you can exercise — ahead of Namibian data-protection law, not behind it.
Last updated 8 July 2026
Namibia’s Data Protection Bill has not yet been enacted. We choose to operate as if strong data-protection law already applied, aligning our practices with established regional standards. This page summarises how; the full Privacy Policy on namcab.com is the formal notice.
What we collect and why
| Data | Why we have it |
|---|---|
| Account details (name, phone, email) | To operate your account and contact you about trips. |
| Trip records (GPS trace, timestamps, fare) | Safety, receipts, fare disputes and fraud prevention. |
| Driver verification documents | Legal vetting: identity, licensing, insurance, police clearance. |
| Payment records (cash record; card data when launched) | Receipts, settlements and disputes. Full card numbers will be held by the payment provider, not NamCab. |
| Support and dispute history | To resolve your cases and meet our service standards. |
How long we keep it
- Trip records: kept while your account is active, then retained only as long as needed for legal, tax and dispute purposes before deletion or anonymisation.
- Driver verification documents: kept while the driver is active, plus a limited period afterwards for legal defence; expired superseded documents are purged on renewal.
- Support cases: kept for the period in which a dispute could still arise from them.
- Verification selfies and videos: used for identity confirmation and not repurposed.
Your rights with us
Exercise any of these by submitting a support request or emailing support@namcab.com. Identity verification is required before data is released — we will not hand your trip history to someone else.
- Access: ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: ask us to fix inaccurate details.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your account and data; we will do so except where the law requires retention (for example, tax records).
- Objection: tell us if you believe we are using your data beyond these purposes.
Who we share data with
- Drivers and riders see the minimum about each other needed for the trip: first name, photo, vehicle, plate, pickup and destination — never your phone number in the clear or your trip history.
- Authorities: only on lawful request, and we keep a record of such requests.
- Service providers (hosting, communications, and payment processors when launched): bound by contract to use data only to provide the service.
- We do not sell personal data. Ever.
